Nicolas Christoforou, Ph.D.

Nicolas Christoforou is an assistant professor of biomedical engineering at Khalifa University (Abu Dhabi, UAE) and an adjunct assistant professor of biomedical engineering at Duke University (Durham, NC, USA). Nicolas earned his PhD from Johns Hopkins University Medical School in 2005, and his BA in Chemistry and Biology from Wittenberg University in 1999. Prior to joining Khalifa University in 2011 Dr. Christoforou was a senior research scientist in the lab of Dr. Kam Leong at Duke University. His research interests primarily focus on cardiac, vascular, and skeletomuscular tissue engineering and their application in regenerative medicine and the development of organotypic models of human physiology and pathophysiology.
